Reflecting on Women's Equality Day: Our Journey Towards Empowerment at Jane DO
By: Jacey Lambros-Carrino
As we commemorate Women's Equality Day, it's a moment of deep reflection and celebration not just for the strides taken towards gender equality, but also for the personal journey I've embarked on as a woman, a female business owner, and a mom to a future woman. It's a day that encapsulates the mission of Jane DO, our values, and our commitment to empowering women, not just through fitness but in every facet of life.
Starting Jane DO was more to my partner Dani and I, than just the inception of a business, it was the realization of a vision we felt, and still do feel passionately about. Realizing that vision; a place where women can find strength and empowerment, is what has enabled me to personally achieve it in my own life.
Being a female entrepreneur in such a competitive industry comes with its unique challenges, but it's these very challenges that underscore the importance of female representation in leadership roles. Our journey is a testament to what women can achieve when they dare to dream, breaking barriers not just for themselves but for the women who stand beside them, and for those, like my daughter Leni, who look up to them.
This journey of entrepreneurship has been a profound lesson in resilience, leadership, and the strength of community. Each day provides a new opportunity to lead by example, showing that female business owners can not only thrive but can also create inclusive spaces that champion the values of equality and empowerment.
But those values don't begin and end with me. At Jane DO, our mission is to create the largest group of the most confident women, a mission that truly begins with our team. Hiring women is not just a business decision, it's a reflection of our personal values and the very foundation upon which our brand is built. By creating opportunities for women, we're fostering an environment of support, empowerment, and equality. Our commitment to hiring women goes beyond mere numbers. It's about creating leadership opportunities, offering mentorships, and ensuring our team reflects the diverse, dynamic, and powerful community we serve. It's about showing the world the incredible impact women can make when given the chance to lead, inspire, and empower.
Every class at Jane DO is designed to empower women from all walks of life. Yet, our commitment to empowerment extends beyond the studio. We've seen it happen time and time again; when women feel strong and powerful in the studio, she does incredible things outside of the studio. It is through this confidence and self assuredness that our Janes are assuming leadership roles in their professional lives, pursuing entrepreneurship, and breaking ceilings in every industry.
In the ever-evolving landscape of business and entrepreneurship, it’s enlightening yet disheartening to acknowledge that while roughly 42% of businesses nationwide are helmed by women, a stark contrast is evident within the franchising sector, where only about 30% are female-owned. At Jane DO, we're not just observing this discrepancy; we're actively working to change it. Our mission transcends feeling strong and confident in fitness classes. We are aiming to empower women through economic and financial independence and business ownership too.
As we look to the future, the mission of Jane DO remains clear: to empower as many women as possible. This commitment shapes not only our business practices but also our vision for a world where women's equality is not just an ideal but a reality. By fostering a culture of support, equality, and empowerment, we're not just creating a fitness brand, we're building a movement. One where I am proud and hopeful for future generations of Janes to be a part of.
On Women's Equality Day, let's renew our commitment to this cause. Let's continue to break barriers, challenge stereotypes, and uplift one another. Together, we can pave the way for a future where every woman has the opportunity to become her most confident self. At Jane DO, we're just getting started.
